Mae West Monday

First off, the answer to Friday's quiz:
who wrote "O brave new world" ?
was William Shakespeare, the man who left his "second best bed" to his wife in his will. See Miranda's speech in The Tempest here:http://www.shakespeare-literature.com/The_Tempest/9.html

Now here are today's Mae West quotes:

"I speak two languages, Body and English."

"I've been things and seen places."

"It isn't what I do, but how I do it. It isn't what I say, but how I say it, and how I look when I do it and say it."
Let's hope we all do, say, and look fine this week.

Did she write these, say them spontaneously or are these quotes from her films that used other writers?
The wordplay is so funny!

Luckily, I was too tired to stay awake ruminating about it. ;) I should have remembered as our homeschool literary co-op just did The Tempest last year. Duh.

Gotta love the always quotable Mae West!

Mae West wrote, directed and produced her own plays, one of which caused her to be sentenced for ten days in prison. While incarcerated on Welfare (now Roosevelt) Island, the warden took her to dinner every night. I imagine she became the first inmate to get time off for "bad behavior."

Most of the famous Mae West quotations are from lines in her movies, lines which she wrote, when they got past the censors.
Notorious for rewriting lines given, her co-star George Raft said, "She stole everything but the cameras."

Thanks and I'll bet. She's brilliant! Mae fits right into the people I know from the burlesque scene in Brooklyn that star in my book, "Mermaids on Parade". They are fearless. And fashionistas. I'm a spectator type and enjoyed painting their energy. Performing is not really my thing. I put all life drama inside my books :) But totally admire that fire and moxie. To quote the philosphy of a wise playwright, actress and Dazzle Dancer who is an acrobat in my book. "We must get naked to get to the truth". All the preachers, rabbis, and gurus could not say it better. Geuax Mae, with her brains and talnet the Emperor had no clothes, literally.

Hello friend, love your site. Are you sure it was the Bard or Edward DeVeres Earl of Oxford?
My husband and I once called Mae West in our daiting days. We first got her body guard the Mae herself. She was a great wit from Astoria.
Thanks for following me.

Thanks for getting BACK to me, Beloved Dreamer. My spies tell me Mae was from Brooklyn, not Astoria, Queens, though she may have partied at the Waldorf Astoria.
