Rain Makes Applesauce

One of my all-time favorite children's books is Rain Makes Applesauce, illustrated by my teacher at Queens College, the late great Marvin Bileck. Also a fine, fine artist, "Mr. Bileck," as we called him, didn't just draw, he caressed the paper with a variety of pencils and paints and the patience of a Saint, which he is, along with the insight of a seer, which he was.
His use of flowing flowering hand-drawn letters and expressive line was influential to me and many others budding artists blooming under his tree.
A Caldecott Honor book, it is now back in print.
